Design the perfect program for you to hit your goals

When joining a gym with the intent to change your physical appearance or your capabilities in terms of strength, going in without a plan is less than ideal. Whether you are training for bodybuilding or a strength sport like powerlifting, you always want to have a workout routine to follow, so you know where you need to improve. That being said, how do you create the perfect workout program? What exactly should you look for when it comes to crafting a good workout program that will help forward your progress with your fitness journey?

The team at Boostcamp has assembled a step by step guide to help you craft the perfect workout program, and the best part is you can do it right in Boostcamp, for FREE! That being said, let’s take a look at what exactly you should look to do when you are designing your perfect workout program.

Initial Considerations of the Perfect Workout Program

There are a few things that you need to consider when creating the perfect workout program, so let’s break those down a bit further.

Goal Setting

First and foremost, you cannot create the perfect workout program if you do not know your goals. That being said, you need to take a minute to assess what exactly it is that you want to do. Are you looking to build muscle mass? Or are you looking to max out your big three compound lifts? These are things to consider when creating your perfect workout routine.

Timeline and Time Management

The timeline of your intended goals is a large part of creating the perfect workout program. For example, if you are looking to bulk up to an intended weight, do you want to do it in three months? Or do you want to do it in six? The same goes if you are cutting down on body fat, you have to take a look at how many weeks or months you want to do it in.

Aside from the timeline of a workout program, you have to look at your time management as well. If you are a busy person who cannot get into the gym every single day, then you need to take that into consideration when constructing your perfect workout program. Creating a program that allows you to be flexible with your schedule is ideal. Maybe you can only do a two-day full body routine, or you have time for three-days, or maybe you are lucky enough to be able to lift five or six days a week. (Just a reminder to not forget to focus on recovery).

These two things will also affect your program length. For example, if you are looking to get shredded in just a few months, your workout program should only run for that amount of time. The same goes for the type of program you choose, if you are doing a full body routine several days a week, you have to consider how long that is sustainable for, and how long you want your program to run based on that.

Selecting Exercises

Another thing to consider when creating the perfect workout program are the exercises that you want to use. If you are training for powerlifting, you need to focus on the big three compound lifts and the accessory exercises that will compliment those. As an example, if you are aiming to max out your bench press, then you have to train based on that with exercises that will help it, like the close grip bench press. The same goes for increasing the squat and deadlift.

On the other hand, if you are training for hypertrophy, your exercises may consist more of “fine tuning” exercises rather than heavy compounds.

Then the bottom line is that when creating the perfect workout program, you need to choose your exercises based on that.

Training Frequency

Another thing to consider when creating the perfect workout program is training frequency (which we lightly touched on). The training frequency is how often you are hitting the gym, and more specifically how often you are hitting each muscle group. If you hit your chest on Monday, you do not want to hit your chest again on Tuesday.

You also need to consider how many days you will need each week for recovery. If your workout routines are high volume and high intensity, then you may need a bit more time to recover in between workouts.

Creating the Perfect Workout Program in Boostcamp

Now when it comes to creating the perfect workout program, Boostcamp is the go-to, and for good reason. Aside from offering well over 50 free workout programs that are created by renowned coaches of all different sports, Boostcamp offers the ability to create your own workout program that caters to your specific wants and needs. Let’s take a little bit more of a look into creating a workout program in Boostcamp.

Multi-Week Programs

While the pre-written workout routines will allow for set amounts of time, Boostcamp enables you to control how long you want to write the workout program for. Whether you want to write a program for 8 weeks, or 48 weeks, you can do that in the Boostcamp App.

Rep Schemes and Progression

Now a big part of creating a good workout program involves fluctuating rep schemes, especially if you are training for a strength sport. You do not want to be doing four sets of twelve on each individual exercise for weeks on end with no change to the rep scheme. Boostcamp allows you to change up rep schemes, testing your one rep maxes and seeing where your strength truly is at.

You also have the capability to choose your progression methods. For example, incorporating progressive overload is simple when using the Boostcamp app, and can help you progress even more in your fitness journey.

Community Programs

If you are stuck with trying to figure out how to create the perfect workout program, Boostcamp allows you to check out programs that other fitness enthusiasts have written and put on the community programs section. This can give you some solid inspiration for crafting your workout program.

Convenience Tools

Another benefit of creating your perfect workout program in Boostcamp are the convenience tools, making it super simple to create the layout of your program. Rather than entering each exercise over and over again, week after week, Boostcamp’s desktop tools offer duplication features and desktop tools for streamlined program creation, so if your program calls for a certain amount of sets and reps for a certain exercise a few times, you can just duplicate it.

Creating the Perfect Workout Program Wrap Up

Overall, creating the perfect workout program does not have to be overly complicated and can be made quite simple with the Boostcamp App. Once you have figured out your goals and the other factors that go into creating the perfect workout program, you can head right over to Boostcamp and create your own. You can even share it with community programs so other people can workout like you do.
